上班，lunch time BBQ (Barbeque), table tennis. 早早下班，却找不着一个 tennis partner, 辜负一个美好的天气。Back to home, 忙着给自行车换辐条，之后再打扫已经半年没有清理的房间。I was in the hot water shower, singing “silent night, holy night” when you online. Right now ，在做绿豆粥。圣诞晚餐是粥加豇豆咸菜，再 watch NBA Rockets vs. Nets – 姚易对撞。
But I think I know the problem. Because America is a new country, the people who live there have no sense of history. And if you have no concept of “the past”, it is extremely difficult to grapple with the idea of “the future”.
If you think a bar established in 1956 is “old” then you will not understand the idea of next week. So why bother building for it?
We see this short-termism in everything from the average American house, which falls over whenever the wind gets up, to the way chief executives are treated. In Japan, you are given 25 years before you are judged on whether you’ve turned the company around. In America, bosses are given two months. And if there’s been no financial about-turn, they are fired.
AIG and Lehman Brothers got caught out because they were being run by people who live only in the here and now. They couldn’t see that it would all come crashing down in the future because there’s no such thing.

So that’s British people asked why half of the population of world leader are idiots after they re-elected George W. Bush to his second term of the President of the United States.
The closest world leader’s underdog – Japan is a country full of perverts.
China – the biggest population country in the world is a 神仙经常出没的地方…
Seb Coe in his interview said London 2012 will be the ‘fun Olympics’. I wonder whether the fun London Olympics mean a swing party?
Britain have lost all their wars in sports, diplomacy, old colonial. Nothing more left to the whinge and grumpy little Britain today.
Count on their biggest contribution to the world civilisation are not the invention of modern sports, industrial revolution, export of great British comedy, as well as crossing bred language – English.
The biggest contribution from Britain to the world civilisation are BULLSHIT! The terrible taste bud stuck to beef and milk and cheese. Fart made by the diary farm are the main contributor of today’s global warming.
Just like Coco Chanel who gave women the freedom, and Yves Saint Laurent who gave women the power, I want to be a person who help women take over the world. So there will be no wars, no political regimes. And men can stay back, drink beer and enjoy sports everyday.
My thought of the day…
I have thought about the pro and con for two days whether to join the team, finally, the natural burning passion win the battle.
Really don’t want to miss an opportunity that we can start up, maybe a prosperous business in future. Let’s hope we can steer it unstoppably into the unknown water for a long long time.
One thing I want to share with you is that I was in Unico company’s Town Hall meeting last Friday. One of the two co-founders of the company, Mike Palmer, gave a speech in front of whole company’s 160+ colleagues before his retirement. He briefed company’s history, started from two people, and ups and downs during the last 24 years. There are several things impressed me in his speech:
- a company must has its culture. And this culture must be from top down
- when Unico started, they have the goals like do the interesting work and be proud of the work been done
“Treat other people like the way you treat yourself” is the final punchline of the speech. This the same one of my favourite quotes from Confucius – If you don’t want something done onto yourself, don’t do it onto others.
This IT veteran career story really make people think. But what a coincidence you called me on same day night about work on the project. Is it an omen?
Maybe I’m talking a bit too far from right now. Anyway, back to business. Start the engine and let’s rock.
More brain food for 150MB per person per month policy:
1. One of my good mate is a TPG (ISP) customers. He is on 600MB per month plan. My mate is not a computer junkie. He only uses internet mainly to check his hotmail, send his kids’ latest photos around, and read news online. And he uses all his quote every month. So there are always a few Spanish Inquisition days every month, he has to be tortured by TPG downgrading his internet speed from blissful ADSL2+ to brittle 64kb dial up.
TPG declares 600MB is designed to people do internet surfing and email. Several other ISPs also have the similar package. It seems that it is common practice 600MBish is let people jump on the internet.
2. Last night I set up all my browsers (Firefox and SeaMonkey) to disable load all images, install AdBlock Plus and FlashBlock plugins. Browsers are much quicker while loading pages. They are more like a Lynx Windows version now.
However, while I check web usage today, I find there is not much different comparing the first two days when the browsers in their full blow mode. Google site still the top one, still eats as much quote as used to be.
If you don’t have enterprise level knowledge based solution, if you don’t have a decent desktop search engine help you find info at your finger, Google is still the first place you want to go.
Google represents the trend today that more and more companies moving from traditional desktop applications to web based, network centralised solution. To enforce this quote policy, with such low permit, IMHO, it really frustrates people who want to get shared information and knowledge from the net in a more intelligent and efficient way.
